Synopsis
The exemplary adventure of Somankidi Coura, an agricultural cooperative founded in Mali in 1977 by West African immigrant workers living in workers' accommodation in France, sheds light on the violence of colonial agriculture and the ecological challenges in Africa today.

Review for the International Cinephile Society.
Spread throughout Bouba Touré and Raphaël Grisey’s Crossing Voices are various aerial images of the land around the Senegal River. These are not fixed images: as the camera moves, new squared parts of the map start loading at different speeds and different resolutions, as happens when one gets too close on Google Earth. The landscape is not a fixed entity but constantly changing, and to know the landscape requires more than just having a look at it from above. It is necessary to actually inhabit it.
Touré would know. He was one of the co-founders of Somankidi Coura, an agricultural cooperative established in the 70s by workers from Mali, Senegal, Mauritania, and Guinea who…

Whirlwind Afrofuturist montage version of Ogawa's Magino Village: A Tale, condensed to half the time but achieving many of the same things.

A magnificent swirling tapestry that resists and transcends colonial-capitalist conditions through intertwined narratives of liberation. Archive is vision! This film awakens the relational nature of our struggles—interweaving a voice with another, a plant with another, a story with another, a presence with another. As all things speak, they become voices; and as they become voices, they begin to echo with one another, drawing something larger into being. Such a great work. Now all the threads are here.
