UT Canvas Catalog is an outreach platform for non-degree instructional purposes that allows the University of Tennessee, Knoxville colleges and units to centralize their public outreach, continuing education programs, and professional development offerings in an attractive online marketplace.

UT Canvas Catalog Features

  • There are two sides to UT Canvas Catalog that interact with each other:
    • Catalog – storefront interface that handles course enrollments and login athttps://canvascatalog.utk.edu
    • Canvas – learning management system for courses
  • UTK usersshould always log in with their UTK NetID and password. All UTK faculty, staff, and students automatically receive a UT account in Canvas Catalog. These accounts are updated weekly.
  • Non-UTK users should create a guest account.
  • Departments can use UT Canvas Catalog to:
    • Open course and program enrollment to thepublic, limit enrollment to UTK users, or provide course access only tospecific individuals
    • Offer no-fee and/or fee-based courses and programs
    • Charge the enrollment fee, paid directly to the department though the TouchNet Payment Gateway
    • Offer discounts and promotional codes to learners
    • Offer a certificate of completion for a course and/or a program

Setting Up a Canvas Catalog Course

We at OIT are happy to assist you in offering a course or a program in Canvas Catalog.

There is a fee structure associated with Canvas Catalog

Catalog courses are $9.00 per user per course, effective August 1, 2022, per our contract with Canvas. The departments/colleges are billed monthly for the new users. To discuss specific costs per course or program, pleasesubmit a request online.

When will OIT charge my department/college a fee to use Canvas Catalog?

OIT will not charge your department/college if the course(s)/program(s) is being offered without a fee and opens enrollment only for UTK users.

For all other course(s)/program(s) being offered, OIT will charge the department/college a one-time $9.00 fee per user (both UTK and non-UTK users) per course.

  • Example: You offer a course with no fee, but the course has open enrollment for UTK users, UT System users, and Non-UTK users.
  • Example: You offer a course with a fee and only UTK users will be enrolled.

How do I enroll in a UT Canvas Catalog course? - for UTK users and current guests (non-UTK users with an existing guest account)

UTK users and current guests (non-UTK users with an existing guest account):

  1. Visit UT Canvas Catalog and select the course of interest, OR follow the link shared by the instructor.
  2. Select the Enroll Now button. A Welcome page is displayed.
  3. Select UTK users and current guests, log in here! You will be presented with two login options.
    • Log in with UTK NetID – – UTK users, enter your UTK NetID and password. All UTK faculty, staff, and students automatically receive a UT account in Canvas Catalog. Note that these accounts are created at the beginning of each month.
    • Log in without UTK NetID – – Non-UTK users, enter the email address and password you used to create your UT Canvas Catalog account.
  4. Select your login option and follow the instructions on the screen. After successful login, you will access the Checkout page.
    • To enroll in a Free course:
      • Select the Enroll button.
    • To enroll in a Fee-based course:
      • Enter a Promotion Code if you have one and select Apply.
      • Select Pay and Enroll to complete your enrollment. You will be presented with a secure payment page. Follow the prompts on the screen to complete your payment.
  5. Upon successful enrollment, a confirmation message will be displayed on your screen and a Catalog Enrollment Confirmationemail will be sent to the email address associated with your account.
  6. Select Catalog Student Dashboard or Go to Courses. The Student Dashboard page lists courses in which you are enrolled.For more information about this page, review the guide called How do I use the Student Dashboard in Catalog?
  7. Select the Begin Course button and begin learning!

How do I enroll in a UT Canvas Catalog course? - for non-UTK users who do not have a guest account

Non-UTK users, please create a guest account to enroll in a course/program:

  1. Visit UT Canvas Catalog and select the course of interest, OR follow the link shared by the instructor.
  2. Select the Enroll Now button. A Welcome page is displayed.
  3. Fill out the Create a Guest Account web form and select Register New Guest Account. The next screen instructs you to confirm your registration. Canvas catalog will automatically send email to the email address indicated in your account registration.
  4. Check your email for a Welcome to Catalog message stating that an account has been created for you. In the email, select Complete Registration. The link will open the Canvas Catalog Account Registration page. Your login ID is the email you indicated in your guest account registration.
    • Enter a password of your choosing.
    • Select your Time Zone.
    • Select Register.
  5. After successful login, you will be presented with the Checkout page.
    • To enroll in a Free course:
      • Select the Enroll button.
    • To enroll in a Fee-based course:
      • Enter a Promotion Code if you have one and select Apply.

  1. Install and open the Canvas Student app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Find my school. NOTE: Do not search for University of Tennessee, Knoxville because it uses a separate instance of Canvas.
  3. Enter ut.instructure.com and tap Go or Return. The Canvas Catalog login page will be displayed.
  4. Select your login option and follow the instructions on the screen.
    • Log in with UTK NetID – UTK users, enter your UTK NetID and password. All UTK faculty, staff, and students automatically receive a UT account in Canvas Catalog. These accounts are created at the beginning of each month.
    • Log in without UTK NetID – Non-UTK users, enter the email address and password you used to create your UT Canvas Catalog account.
  5. Upon successful login, you will access the Canvas Catalog student dashboard page. Select a course in which you are enrolled. Find the information about using the Canvas courses on a mobile device at Canvas Student iOS Guide and Canvas Student Android Guide.

How do non-UTK users reset their password?

  1. Visit UT Canvas Catalog
  2. Select the Login or Create Guest Account link located in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. On the page that appears, select the Log in without UTK NetID button.
  4. Select the Forgot Password? link.
  5. Enter the email address that was used to create the UT Canvas Catalog account.
  6. Select the Request Password button.
  7. You will receive an email message with a link to change your password.

How do I obtain a certificate of completion?

How do I obtain a certificate of completion?

The instructor may enable a certificate of completion for a course or a program. In that case, UT Canvas Catalog automatically issues a certificate to learners when they have completed all requirements in a modules-based course.

To view and download the certificate:

  • Visit the UT Canvas Catalog website.
  • Select Login or Create Guest Account in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Select your login option and follow the instructions on the screen:
    • Log in with UTK NetID – UTK users, enter your UTK NetID and password.
    • Log in without UTK NetID – Non-UTK users, enter the email address and password you used to create your guest account.
  • Upon successful login, Student Dashboard lists courses in which you are enrolled. Student Dashboard is also available by selecting Student Dashboard in the drop-down menu next to your name in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Select the Completed tab. The certificate can be viewed and downloaded using links next to the course name.

How do I access courses in a certificate program?

Some program courses may not visible in the public view of Canvas Catalog. If you are enrolled in a program, you can access the program courses from Student Dashboard.

  • Visit the UT Canvas Catalog website.
  • Select Login or Create Guest Account in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Select your login option and follow the instructions on the screen:
    • Log in with UTK NetID – UTK users, enter your UTK NetID and password.
    • Log in without UTK NetID – Non-UTK users, enter the email address and password you used to create your guest account.
  • Upon successful login, Student Dashboard lists courses in which you are enrolled. Student Dashboard is also available by selecting Student Dashboard in the drop-down menu next to your name in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Select the In Progress tab.
  • The Programs section displays your program details. View all courses included in the program in the Requirements list.
    • Available program courses display a Begin Course button.
    • Courses you have started display a Resume Course button.
    • If a course is not yet available, the course image displays a lock icon.
